Smart Minds Summer Academy 2012 - About Our Program

Imagine your child in a math class where he/she is actively engaged in interesting, relevant, and meaningful discussions and investigations that go beyond routine calculations and develop a deeper level of mathematical understanding and thinking skills...

And in a science class where our young scientists explore the most interesting topics in the worlds of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology using hands-on, discovery learning...

And in an archaeology course where students learn about the basic techniques of archaeology through simulation and gain an understanding and appreciation of the achievements of a variety of ancient cultures...

Smart Minds is proud to offer an exciting 2012 Summer Academy for Gifted and Talented or Highly Motivated students entering 2nd through 7th grades.

This inspiring and engaging program includes: Mathematics, Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology), and Archaeology classes at each level.

Our Primary goal in selecting these exceptional courses is based on the following criteria:

  • Standard-based programs
  • Hands-on experiments and investigations
  • A captivating program that illuminates the visions of National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and National Science Foundation (NSF)
  • Fun, motivating, and exciting

The classes will be taught by Certified and Highly Qualified Gifted and Content Specialists.

The same exemplary program is offered twice this summer - Session 1 OR Session 2.

Session 1:
June 11 - June 29
9:00 am – 12:00 pm (Mon. – Fri.)

Session 2:
July 9 – July 27
9:00 am – 12:00 pm (Mon. – Fri.)

Tuition:

Tuition for the 3 weeks program is $525

Tuition includes:

  • registration
  • all materials
  • supplies for all 3 classes

To encourage early registration this year, we are offering a $50 discount if
you register before March 15, 2012. We also offer a sibling discount of $50
for each additional child from the same family.

Extended Summer Program:

In addition to our morning program, we have an all day program available that is uniquely planned with fun and exciting activities.

This program is scheduled from 8:00 am – 9:00 am and 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm.
The additional fee for this program is $400.

Thinking Games (8:00 – 9:00): Students will be engaged with thinking games, brainteasers, and a wide variety of challenging puzzles that are both entertaining and educational.

Lunch (12:15 – 1:00)

Journey to The Center of The Earth (1:00 - 2:00): This fascinating class will take you on an adventure to discover how the earth continues to evolve. This hands-on science class will involve students in a broad range of science experiments involving rock structures, erosion, and deposition.

Magic of Theatrics (2:00 -3:00): This class will explore the magic of theatre for children. Join us for theatre games to stretch the imagination, sharpen improvisation skills, and more. The experience will culminate in a short live performance for all to enjoy.

Polyhedraville (3:00  4:00): Students will work in teams of architects to design a future colony with required specifications. This class will provide an opportunity for students to infuse their creativity with their knowledge of geometry as they build the colony.

Thinking Outside The Box (4:00 - 5:00): The students are guaranteed to love this class as they are immersed in tasks that require creativity and critical thinking skills.

To register, please print the application form and submit it along with your check payable to Smart Minds. Registration is limited and classes fill up early.

To ensure placement, please register as soon as possible.
(We were forced to reject more than 20 applications due to limited enrollment last year.)
