Engineering in Action (9:00 - 10:00): Are you fascinated by taking your toys or games apart to see how they work? Are you interested in building towers and structures? If the answer is yes, you are a natural engineer! Our Smart Minds scholars will experience real-world engineering projects and examine the world around them by looking at common objects, structures, and games to understand how engineering has solved everyday problems. They will recognize that we are faced with daily problems, and that finding the solution is a part of exciting world of science and engineering. This fascinating course will involve students in all hands-on projects to solve problems and will increase their desire to pursue one of the many great career opportunities in field of engineering! Become An Exceptional Leader (10:00 - 11:00): Did you know that, of the approximately 100 skills identified by the world’s most respected employers, leadership is ranked among the top 10 skills to have, but ranked the second most lacking of skills among young adults? This class, through fun and engaging activities, will emphasize skills such as goal setting, communication, and organization along with other skills it takes to be an exceptional leader both in your school and community. Please remember, this course is based on the belief that good leaders are developed - not born! As such, the focus of this class will be to give you the tools you need to become a great leader! Ancient Civilizations (11:00 - 12:00): Imagine living in a time when there weren’t any cities and you had to gather, grow, or hunt your own food; build your own home, and sew your own clothes! In this fascinating course, you will learn how civilizations began and grew, as well as the different aspects that made them unique. You will learn about the history and the culture of the major civilizations that have influenced shaping our world today. We will study, create crafts, and role play while taking an in-depth look at ancient Greece, Egypt, and Rome. Lunch (12:15 - 1:00) Think Creatively! (1:00 - 2:00): The students are guaranteed to love this class as they will be involved in fun activities, puzzles, plexers, mysteries, brainteasers, and many more that cultivate creativity and encourage students to use critical thinking skills to solve problems. Our scholars will definitely be “thinking outside the box” during this course as they learn strategies and gain multiple perspectives that will assist them in applying creative solutions to existing problems. This engaging course will help the students explore the strategies used by innovators such as Charles Darwin’s graphic organizers and Leonardo da Vinci’s use of multiple perspectives. They will then use these strategies to solve problems and invent new ideas in ways they never thought possible! Mastering Jeopardy (2:00 - 3:00): In this inspiring course, students will have a great time showing their knowledge by playing the famous game of Jeopardy. Math, science, geography, history & government, art, music, and many more fun and interesting topics will provide the categories for this time-honored game. Don’t know some of the answers?! That’s OK. The intent of Mastering Jeopardy is to help students learn with insight by seeing the magic and wonders of mathematics, science, and geography & history while understanding and appreciating their place in the world. In addition, problem solving scenarios which will enhance the students’ higher level thinking skills will be presented during the class. Students will work in teams to solve fascinating and challenging problems. Our Smart Minds scholars will absolutely love this course! Chess Strategies (3:00 - 4:00): Whether you are new to the game or you are a proficient chess player, this course will inspire you to think analytically, develop focused concentration, and learn to enjoy the strategies and tactics involved in the game from the best National Chess Master and National Tournament Director, Mr. Tanner. |

Developing Mathematical Minds (9:00 - 10:00): This inspiring course will be a great way for you to explore the fascinating world of mathematics and help you develop skills to become a mathematical genius and while realizing how interesting math can be! You will be engaged in learning skills such as multiplication, division, fractions, number sense, and much more through hands-on activities all in the context of authentic problem solving. Our students will participate in challenging and engaging activities that will teach and reinforce the standards for the coming years and will leave this class interested, well-prepared, and energized about learning mathematics every day. Let’s Start a Business (10:00 - 11:00): What is a business?! How does one start and run a business? This hands-on course will enable the students to develop the skills and understanding needed for sound financial decision-making. Our students will be introduced to important concepts such as income, spending, saving, investing, research, development, and marketing as they establish and conduct their own business through an authentic and hands-on approach. Our Smart Minds entrepreneurs will absolutely love this class! Around the World in Ten Days (11:00 - 12:00): Our students will gain a greater global understanding and appreciation for world cultures by being immersed into different cultures through a journey around the world and exploring the languages, music, food, history, and geography of various countries. This has been a favorite course at Smart Minds as the students are given the opportunity to choose their own country to research and share the information with other students. Lunch (12:15 - 1:00) Public Speaking - Becoming a Confident Speaker (1:00 - 2:00): While speaking in public has proven to be #1 fear for most adults, it is widely recognized that a good set of communication skills is the primary ingredient to ensure success regardless of one’s occupation. Fortunately, most young children have not yet learned to fear communicating their thoughts and ideas in public settings. Therefore, childhood is the ideal time to teach children the basics of public speaking that will help the formation of life-long effective communication skills. This exciting program will prepare children for the unavoidable oral presentations with a confidence that will accompany their academic careers. The course introduces the basics of public speaking in a fun and non-threatening way. The students will learn:

Please note that we also provide an Extended Day option for the students who wish to arrive as early as 7:30 am and stay as late as 5:00 pm. This option allows the students to play fun educational games with their peers and teachers.
